August 2021 Healthy News from Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka
Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka welcomes all spine pain patients! Spine pain is disconcerting for its sufferers. Sitka chiropractic spinal manipulation helps. Though low back pain is a major cause of disability around the world, its sufferers who experience recurrent or persistent bouts of low back pain find chiropractic maintenance care worthwhile as it is patient-centered care. (1) Neck pain sufferers, too, find help with chiropractic. Neck pain patients treated with spinal manipulation – 90% of which is delivered by chiropractors in the US – were found to be 2.38 times less likely to need escalated and costly care like imaging, injection, emergency room or surgery (just 26%) than patients who were treated with other kinds of care (46%). (2) A new study of Medicare patient claims reports that patients who had reduced access to chiropractic care had a rise in visits (32.3 a year) to primary care physicians for spine pain and a rise in spine surgeries (5.5 a year) costing an extra $114,967 per 1000 Medicare beneficiaries and $391 million nationally. (3) Your Sitka chiropractor is well-experienced in delivering spinal manipulation. Spinal manipulation is and has been advised as first-line treatment for low back pain. Medicare claims’ reviews note that chiropractors are the majority of healthcare providers for spinal manipulation and that the overall supply of spinal manipulation providers is dropping. (4) Don’t worry! Your hometown, Sitka chiropractor does not intend to stop providing pain-relieving spinal manipulation, particularly the gentle, research-supported Cox® Technic style of spinal manipulation.
Listen to this PODCAST with Dr. Kurt Olding on The Back Doctors Podcast with Dr. Michael Johnson as he discusses the place of spinal manipulation in the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management for the relief of spinal stenosis, a common spine pain condition in the over-65 age set.
Beneficial B Vitamins
B vitamins are beneficial. B12 deficiency is often associated with dementia in patients 65 years old and over. It has also been seen in younger people who have normal B12 levels but have a high methylmalonic acid (MMA) level. Testing the MMA level may be considered in patients with symptoms that seem unrelated as in one patient with neuropathy, depression and stomach issues who tested a high level of MMA. (5) Biotin (B7) supplementation is showing potential in the treatment of neuropathic pain and could reduce the required doses of analgesic drugs. (6) Riboflavin (B2) in foods and via supplements is renowned for its antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory effects among others. A recent study reported that B2 offers anti-itch properties. (7) How are your B levels? Let’s talk at your next visit!
