SCIATIC LEG PAIN: Right Leg or Left Leg
You have heard of right-handed people and left-handed people, right? Yes! Did you know that the left leg grows longer in right-handed people and the right leg grows longer in left-handed people? Not 100% of the time, but research has it documented in pretty high percentages. Bearing this in mind, it is not surprising that more people have longer left legs (53%) than right legs (39%). Amazingly, just 8% of people have equal leg lengths. (1) How does that impact which leg will have sciatic leg pain? Discs will bulge into the concavity of the curve owing to a range of issues like uneven stresses on the disc’s anulus. The concavity of the spinal curve is on the long leg side. A right-handed person with a long left leg will likely have leg pain on the left side. Another interesting point: hip pain often arises on the long leg side, too: 88.9% long leg and 11.1% short leg. Sciatica is the same: 78.5% happens on the long leg side versus 21.5% on the short leg side. (2,3) Your Sitka chiropractor can spot a short leg pretty simply by checking three things: iliac crest, the verticality of the spine, and levelness of the posterosuperior iliac spine dimples. Researchers noted that there is a solid relationship between visual and xray measurements. (4) Trust your Sitka chiropractor to see a short leg…and address any related disc herniation causes of pain!
DISC HERNIATION RE-ABSORPTION WITH NON-SURGICAL CARE
A new study examined 75 cases of ruptured lumbar disc herniation. 46 of the 75 cases had radiating leg pain: 46 cases on the left and 29 on the right. (Makes sense now, yes?) At 5 years post- non-surgical treatment, a “reabsorption” phenomenon was found. The excellent and good rate of disc reabsorption was 73.24%. (5) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka provides relieving non-surgical care of Sitka leg pain and back pain.
RELIEF FOR Sitka LEG PAIN and BACK PAIN
And then recall the new paper about the benefits of chiropractic maintenance care: Maintenance care reduces the number of painful days for acute back pain episodes and raises the length of pain-free periods between recurrent back pain episodes of persistent back pain. (6) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka is ready for those back pain and leg pain patients seeking fewer back and leg pain days and those who want to live life with fewer periods of leg and back pain.
