Both Easy and Beneficial to Raise Vitamin D Levels

April 03, 2018

It’s a world-wide epidemic: vitamin D deficiency. 14 in every 100 people around the world has poor vitamin D levels. (1) One published report states that it affects 1 billion of us worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is linked to a wide assortment of diseases. Bettering vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is followed. Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka encourages our Sitka chiropractic patients to check and work to raise as necessary their vitamin D levels. Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka is sure that positive health benefits will result from this effort.

DISEASES LINKED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS

A rampant vitamin D deficiency is correlated with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like lung, pancreatic, colorectal, kidney, breast is related to low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are as well. (1, 2, 3) Vitamin D plays a key role in calcium homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-connected to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) Vitamin D3 supplementation is effective in its care. Checking the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test as to the success of the treatment. (4) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also known to be influenced by vitamin D status as well. Sitka chiropractic care at Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka benefits Sitka chiropractic patients with these conditions.

BENEFITS OF RAISING VITAMIN D LEVELS

Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D is shown to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers propose that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit disorder, and autism. (1) Giving a daily same dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients on day one through day 21 alleviates symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka sees how these benefits are worth the work our Sitka chiropractic patients would take on to elevate low vitamin D levels.

HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS

A study of healthy young women revealed that taking calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of vitamin D by those with levels of greater than 20 ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels increase. The rise was seen within the first 30 days of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. A thought-provoking side finding in this study: It is difficult to get people to do what is recommended! Only 67 of the 106 study women took the recommended supplements for the three months of the study! (6)
