WHO SMOKES?

Researchers are curious about factors linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who experienced back surgery, they discovered that 18% were smokers. The researchers stated that contrasted with the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male, nondiabetic, and nonobese. These patients who suffer with coronary artery disease were more likely to be smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery presented initially more with leg pain than back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education status were also related to smoking status. Interestingly though, smoking status did not influence the disability status one year after back surgery. (1) Modifying such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers luckily. Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka would encourage a Sitka smoker dealing with Sitka back pain to stop smoking.

SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY

The body knows what’s good for it…and what’s not. Smoking is not. Studying 2307 smokers and non-smokers, researchers discovered that smoking is most strongly associated with spine pain. Headache, trunk pain and limb pain ensued. Active smoking is associated with pain in every part of the body. The spine and head bear the brunt of the painful effect though. If a smoker does not like pain, you’ll want to think about stop smoking! (2) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka is with you to back your effort to quit smoking when you’re ready.
