Sitka Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make amazing partners in healing! Both have been incorporated throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties address issues with many different health conditions, many that Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka knows bother our Sitka chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to understand better!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine admires frankincense and myrrh for their wide-ranging helpful health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are components of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of cancers with the newest research showing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and affecting the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was reduced with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination proves itself to be a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka welcomes combinations of treatments to help our Sitka chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a critical problem of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by regulating pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as having the ability to stimulate blood and disperse blood stasis. It was tested and found to reduce neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting to understand as in depth as this, but we want to give you the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
