Sitka Pain Relief with Green Tea

April 04, 2024

We need to bring back teatime, a quiet time in the middle of the day to have a quiet cup of tea away from the bustle of life! (Your Sitka chiropractor would appreciate such a break again!) Teatime was good for the mind and spirit and most likely very good for the body. Most days, most of us just cannot imagine that we could possibly have time, but just enjoying tea on the run in an insulated mug on the commute to your chiropractic appointment at Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka can be beneficial, especially if that tea is green.

BENEFITS OF TEA OVERALL

In China, drinking tea is a traditional lifestyle factor. Not a bad thing! In evaluating the health benefits of tea and its active ingredients for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis – common bone and joint diseases affecting many people – researchers found that tea offers potential anti-COX (cycolooxygenase) factors and hormone-like effects. They suggested that tea has a great potential to be helpful in medicine and healthcare especially as the mechanisms of the different types of tea properties are identified as to their synergistic mechanisms. (1) Tea from plants around us presents us a tasty way to be healthier and even less painful!

BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA FOR PAIN

The more we learn about what nature offers us via medicinal plants, the more we will want to thank nature! Green tea is a well-known beverage sourced from such medicinal plants. Green tea via a multitude of pharmacological activities and antinociceptive effects are proposed to be effective for pain relief because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea is described as a safe and often effective treatment for pain management owing to its suppression of inflammation and oxidative stress. (2) Green tea’s major component, EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), has shown itself to be valuable for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Research papers have published how green tea helps diseases like neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Green tea and its EGCG seem to restrain the expression of inflammatory cytokines and inflammation-linked enzymes. The use of green tea quite possibly enhances the quality of life for inflammatory disease patients with no severe adverse side-effects. (3) Back pain and its associated spinal pain conditions like leg, arm, and neck pain, etc., typically have inflammatory components with them, so increasing consumption of green tea for its anti-inflammatory benefit may be a plus.
