A cyst. What does that bring to mind?
For some Sitka back pain sufferers, it would be a clue
to the basis of their pain. But the diagnosis of a
synovial cyst as the culprit causing pain is a curious one. Back pain and leg pain may develop from a
synovial cyst which is where Sitka chiropractic care at
Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka is effective. Sitka
chiropractic care with the Cox® Technic is shown to help decrease
back pain and related leg pain due to a synovial cyst without
Sitka back surgery.
SYNOVIAL CYST FACTS
First, let’s discuss what
synovial cysts are. Synovial cysts are uncommon lesions associated
with facet degeneration and usually found in the lumbar spine at
L4-S1. (1) 33% to 40% of synovial cysts are linked
with degenerative spondylolisthesis and instability of the affected
joint. (2,3) Synovial cysts may cause sciatica/leg pain.
(4) Synovial cysts appear in females mostly in their sixth
decade of life, giving rise to radicular pain
and neurological deficits. These cysts are frequently
seen at L4-5 which is also the site of maximum mobility in the lumbar spine.
MRI is the diagnostic tool of choice as it shows
the texture of the cyst (more or less fluid). (5) When
synovial cysts appear lighter on MRI T2 images, they are probably
more fluid filled and less probably gelatinous or calcified, making
them potentially easier to ease. (6) Synovial cysts
have been documented to disappear particularly
if the cyst wall is not calcified. (7) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka works to help
Sitka back pain sufferers dealing with synovial cyst get rid of
them, too.
SYNOVIAL CYST CAUSES
Wilby et al describe a channel that joins
the facet joint capsule with the ligamentum flavum, the area where the synovial
cysts become visible. At surgery for these cysts,
they discovered that fragments of articular cartilage and bone were
in the walls of the channels in 89% of the cysts. This debris jams and
prevents the channel from draining and provokes granulation
tissue and scar formation probably leading to
synovial cyst formation. (8) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka works on scar tissue to
enhance the spine’s fluidity.
SYNOVIAL CYST TREATMENT
Conservative treatment of lumbar spine synovial cysts is suggested
as some tend to disappear without surgery. (9)
Conservative treatment is reasonable. If the cyst does
not respond, then surgery is an option. (5) Cox® Technic has a record
of conservative care relief for synovial cysts. (10) As used
at Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka, Cox® Technic succeeded in relief when
an epidural steroid injection did not. (11) In another case, a 75
year old man with back and leg pain and a synovial cyst treated for 3 months/16
visits felt 80% relief. (12) Cox® Technic at Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka
is relieving for many Sitka back pain sufferers
with synovial cysts.
