Sitka CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Strengthen the Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal wall. It’s a deep muscle and usually considered a back muscle as it stretches from the 12th rib to the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae. When contracted, the quadratus lumborum produces lateral flexion of the lumbar spine and/or rise of the pelvis. (5) Several bridge-type exercises are being examined about the way in which they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s 2 layers of muscle in order for it to best contribute to the motor control of the lumbar pain and stop back pain. (6) Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka and you can discuss how your spine may benefit from such exercise at your next Sitka chiropractic visit to Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka.
